Living with Regret

Posted in User Submitted on September 17th, 2009

Every day I sit and think
About that one mistake I made
All those years ago when I was young
And now the price I have paid

The love we shared together
Should never have had to end
But I, being me, tore myself away
And now every day I have to pretend

I remember when I used to look into your eyes
The stars would shine back at me
So intense, so in love
It feels like such a tragedy

Regret is one of the worst feelings in the world
Tares you apart and shakes you up
Many thoughts run through you head
About how your life could have been made up

I seem to have settled for second best
With plenty of chances throughout the past
To change what happened
But life moves on too fast

You came back into my life
At a time of confusion and new challenges
My heart skipped a beat when I saw you there
To talk to you was amazing

The thing you never seemed to know
Was I never once forgot about your face
And how much in love with you I still was
The one who could always put a smile upon my face

And still you have this strange power
That captivates my whole being
And takes me to a new place
Where I feel happy, safe and alive

So here we are, you on your path and me on mine,
Both leading in different directions
With different people and places to go
And all that’s left is friendship and memories
Of the time we shared together
And a wish and longing in my heart
That I could turn back the clock
And change the course of time
